That's when Murphy, founder of Tayto's Crisps potato chip company in the Republic of Ireland, developed the first mass-production technique for adding flavoring to potato chips as they were being made. Ireland's first flavored chips were Cheese & Onion and Salt & Vinegar. The first flavor in the United States: barbecue.
